After securing a spot in the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Tournament by winning the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday, the Kentucky State volleyball team learned of its destination and opponent in the NCAA Selection Show on Monday night. The Thorobrettes will take on Palm Beach Atlantic on Dec. 3 in West Palm Beach, Fla.
In Palm Beach Atlantic, Kentucky State will be facing a strong challenge. The Sailfish come into the tournament as the top seeded team in the South Region with a record of 26-4 on the season. Palm Beach Atlantic is ranked ninth in the AVCA Coaches' poll, and went 18-2 against conference opponents as a provisional member of the Sunshine State Conference.
Kentucky State reached the tournament for the fourth time in six years with an impressive season of its own. The Thorobrettes rolled through SIAC competition this season, going 19-1 during the regular season, then sweeping through the SIAC Tournament while losing only one set in the process.
Kentucky State takes a 25-12 overall record into the tournament against the top-seeded Sailfish. Other No. 1 seeds and regional hosts include Wheeling Jesuit, Concordia-St. Paul, Adelphi, Ferris State, Angelo State, South Carolina-Aiken, and Alaska Anchorage.
