Box Score 2 ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The Kentucky State volleyball team dropped a pair of matches in the Lewis University Tri-Match on Saturday, falling 3-1 to host Lewis and 3-0 to University of Indianapolis.
Against Lewis, the Thorobrettes lost 25-15 and 25-10 in the first two sets respectively, before taking the third set 25-19. The Flyers closed out the match with a 25-17 win in the fourth set.
Lewis went on big runs in all three of the sets it won, pulling ahead of the Thorobrettes with an 8-0 run in the first set, a 9-1 run in the second, and a late 5-0 run in the third. The Flyers, who improved to 14-1 on the season with the win, hit .302 as a team in the match, including .417 in the final set, while Kentucky State connected at just .023 overall.
Micah Rogers and
Kirtrice Ploucha each had seven kills to lead Kentucky State, while Maddie Seliga of Lewis led all players with 12.
Anjelique Kyle led the Thorobrettes in assists (21), digs (11) and aces (2) in the match with Lewis.
Against Indianapolis, Kentucky State fell in straight sets, losing by the scores of 25-16, 25-13, and 25-21.
The first two sets played out similarly, with Indianapolis jumping out to an early lead and holding on for a comfortable victory. The Thorobrettes held a late 19-15 lead in the third set after a
Payton Richardson kill, only to see Indianapolis storm back by outscoring them 10-2 down the stretch.
Richardson had seven kills against Indianapolis to lead Kentucky State, while Rogers and
Tori Farrow each contributed six. Kyle again led the Thorobrettes with 23 assists, while Rogers and
Tahje Ochs tied for the team lead with 11 digs each.
After winning one and losing two in the Tri-Match, Kentucky State comes away with a 13-7 overall record. The Thorobrettes will next put their perfect 12-0 conference record on the line when they travel to play six matches in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference West Division Cluster at Spring Hill College on Oct. 16-17.
