FRANKFORT, Ky.  —  Kentucky State Athletics continues its opening stretch of the 2026 season this week as women's volleyball plays four matches and football travels to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for a matchup against NCAA Division I opponent Southern.

Women's volleyball begins the week Wednesday, Sept. 2, when the Thorobreds welcome Kentucky Christian to Bell Gymnasium for a 6 p.m. match.

Kentucky State enters the contest seeking its first victory after opening the season with four matches at the KYSU Invitational. The Thorobreds fell to Young Harris, Shawnee State, Georgetown and Kentucky Wesleyan, including a five-set battle against Georgetown.
 
Following Wednesday's home match, Kentucky State travels to Crestview Hills, Kentucky, for three contests at the Thomas More Tournament.
 
The Thorobreds open tournament play Friday, Sept. 4, against Salem at 11:30 a.m. before facing Lake Superior State at 4:30 p.m. Kentucky State concludes the tournament Saturday, Sept. 5, against host Thomas More at 7 p.m.
 
All three of Kentucky State's matches at the Thomas More Tournament will be streamed live on FloCollege.
 
Football returns to action Saturday following a commanding 41-14 season-opening victory over rival Central State. The Thorobreds scored 34 unanswered points and held the Marauders scoreless in the second half to earn their first victory of the season.
 
Kentucky State now travels to A.W. Mumford Stadium to face Southern, a member of the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision and Southwestern Athletic Conference.
 
Kickoff between the Thorobreds and Jaguars is scheduled for 7 p.m. Eastern in Baton Rouge. The game will be streamed live on SWAC TV.
