Thorobrettes Come Back From Two Sets Down to Defeat Trevecca Nazarene, 3-2

Box Score FRANKFORT, Ky. - The Kentucky State University women's volleyball team fought back from a two-set deficit to defeat the Trevecca Nazarene University Trojans, 3-2 (21-25, 18-25, 25-13, 25-17, 15-12) at the Trojan Fieldhouse on Tuesday night.

With their backs against the wall after dropping the first two sets, Kentucky State (13-7) rattled off three straight sets to complete the improbable comeback against Trevecca Nazarene (8-7).

In the first two sets, the Trojans jumped ahead of KSU using an opportunistic attack by capitalizing on Kentucky State mistakes. Through the first two sets the Trojans had a .250 attack percentage compared to just .173 for Kentucky State. KSU had accumulated four reception errors and four service aces and were struggling to sustain momentum.

In the final three sets, Kentucky State put everything together.

The Thorobrettes finished the match with 50 kills and a .179 attack percentage compared to 43 kills and a .079 attack percentage for TNU.

With a 5-3 lead in the final set, a questionable call was overturned by the head official giving TNU the point that originally was awarded to Kentucky State. KSU head coach Christina Coleman passionately argued the decision and was given a red card and sent from the floor. The Thorobrettes used the emotional momentum to rattle off six straight points to take a commanding 11-5 lead.

From there, KSU held off the Trojans last push and after Kiara Rivera set up an Anjelique Kyle kill, the Thorobrettes had finished off the comeback.

Kentucky State had three student-athletes finish with double-digit kills. Latosha Scott led the team with a team high 16 kills. Kyle distributed the ball for KSU finishing with 39 assists. The Thorobrettes got a team effort defensively with four players finishing with 11 or more digs. Micah Rogers finished with a match-high 20 digs.

Kentucky State continues their road trip with a matchup against the University of North Alabama on Thursday, Oct. 2.
