Thorobrettes Split Season Series With Miles After, 65-58, Victory on Saturday

Box Score FRANKFORT, Ky. -- The Kentucky State University women's basketball team defeated the Miles College Lady Golden Bears, 65-58, in an SIAC contest on Saturday afternoon at the Exum Center.

The Thorobrettes (9-12, 5-8 SIAC) rattled off four straight victories against SIAC opponents and are winners five out of their last six.

The Miles Lady Golden Bears (10-12, 4-8 SIAC) fall to the Thorobrettes after defeating KSU earlier this season. Miles defeated the Thorobrettes in overtime, 79-77, when the teams met on Jan. 25th in Fairfield, AL.

On a day in which KSU honored its 2013-14 senior class, the senior's led the way for the Thorobrettes.

Senior Style Harper finished with a team-high 14 points to go with seven rebounds, six assists, three steals and a block. Senior guard LaShell West, who is second on the team with 11.2 points per game this season, finished with eight points, seven rebounds and four steals.

The Lady Golden Bears were led by Javonne Brown who finished Saturday's contest with a game-high 19 points. Miles center Tiffany Stephens had nine points and 13 rebounds.

The Thorobrettes harassed Miles all night long with pressure defense, forcing the Lady Golden Bears into 33 turnovers on Saturday. MC point guard Samirah Ali alone had 13 of those turnovers. The 33 turnovers are the second most by a KSU opponent this season. The Thorobrettes forced 37 turnovers against the Claflin Lady Panthers when they played earlier this season.

Next up for Kentucky State is a match-up with rival Central State this Monday, Feb. 10th, at the Frankfort Convention Center. The teams met in Wilberforce earlier this season where the Thorobrettes defeated the Lady Marauders, 65-53.
