Box Score BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – After dropping their opening game of the Sheetz Herb Sims Classic to host Bluefield State on Friday, the Kentucky State University women's basketball team bounced back to pick up a win against West Virginia Tech, 85-60, on Saturday afternoon.

The Thorobrettes (4-2) slowly built up their lead in the first half, eventually heading into the locker room with a 14 point lead at halftime. Kentucky State's defense was stifling, holding the Golden Bears (5-9) to a 20 percent field goal percentage in the opening half. The Thorobrettes didn't put up great offensive numbers themselves but got a big boost from junior guard
Shaia Horton who went 4-of-6 from beyond the arc to help Kentucky State build their lead.

Horton continued her hot shooting in the second half to finish with a game-high 25 points. Horton shot 58 percent from the floor on Saturday including 71 percent from beyond the arc and a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.

In the second half, Kentucky State put everything together and built an insurmountable lead by shooting a scorching 61 percent from the floor as a team. KSU's final total of 85 points is a season-high.

Teeuntra Moore finished with 15 points and three boards.
Shayla Moore capped off a great tournament with a 12 point and 11 rebound double-double.

The Golden Bears had three finish with double digit points led by Cheyanne Lusk who had 15 on a rough 3-of-15 shooting performance. Cierra Mobley had a near double-double for Tech with 8 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

The Thorobrettes now take an extended break before returning to the court in 2015 for the start of conference play. Kentucky State begins their SIAC schedule on Jan. 3, when they travel to Albany State for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
