Serena King-Coleman her 100th career victory on Monday night. The SIAC match-up was played on Monday evening, Jan. 27th, in Bruce-Johnson Hall.
King-Coleman, now in her fourth year at Kentucky State, picks up her 47th victory roaming the sidelines at the helm of the KSU women's basketball program. Her overall career record now stands at 100-194.
King-Coleman began her career with Gardner-Webb, a current member of the NCAA DI Big South Conference, in Boiling Springs, N.C. After that, King-Coleman spent six seasons as the head coach at St. Paul's College, an NCAA DII institution in Lawrenceville, Va. King-Coleman was able to increase her team's total wins each year but her last at St. Paul's.
Prior to the 2010-11 season, King-Coleman was named the head coach of the Kentucky State women's basketball program. In her time at KSU, King-Coleman has amassed a 47-53 overall record. The Thorobrettes stumbled out of the gate to start SIAC play this season but have won two out of their last three, with their loss coming on a buzzer beater in overtime against Miles last Saturday.
In Monday's milestone victory against LeMoyne-Owen (3-14, 3-5 SIAC), the Thorobrettes (6-12, 2-8 SIAC) scraped their way to an important SIAC victory.
Senior Style Harper went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the final two minutes of the game to help hold off a late Lady Magicians rally. Harper finished Monday's contest with a team-high 11 points to go with six rebounds and five assists.
While LeMoyne-Owen had four players score in double figures, no other player scored more than four points. KSU had seven players score five or more points.
As a team, KSU connected on 38% of their shots from the floor, while LOC connected on just 36% as a team. While KSU shot poorly from 3-point range, 2-of-13, the Lady Magicians were held without a deep field goal, going 0-for-9 from beyond the arc.
Junior forward Brieona Warner, who was named the Week 11 SIAC Player of the Week earlier today, had 10 points, seven rebounds, two steals and a block for Kentucky State.
The Thorobrettes will head back home for a match-up with Lane College this Thursday at the Exum Center. The Lady Dragons enter Thursdays contest 0-13 overall and 0-10 in SIAC action. The game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
