Box Score FRANKFORT, Ky. -- The Kentucky State University Thorobrettes picked up their first SIAC victory by defeating the Stillman College Lady Tigers, 81-69, on Monday afternoon at the Exum Center.
The win gives Head Coach Serena King-Coleman her 99th career victory. The Thorobrettes head out for a two game road trip this weekend where King-Coleman will have a chance to secure 100 career wins.
Kentucky State (5-11, 1-7 SIAC) went on a 13-2 run to start the contest and built their lead to as many as 19 points in the first half of the game. Stillman (5-13, 1-7 SIAC) fought their way back, cutting the Thorobrettes lead to seven at the intermission, with KSU taking a 37-30 lead into the half.
With 8:25 left in the game the Stillman's Andrea Moore hit a 3-pointer to cut the Thorobrette lead to just one at 55-54.
Kentucky State bounced back and built their lead back up to as many as 14 points before finishing off the Lady Tiger's, 81-69. The Thorobrettes never trailed in Monday's game. Â
Shayla Moore and LaShell West led the way offensively for the Thorobrettes, pouring in a team-high 17 points each. Moore also had a team-high nine rebounds and three steals.
Forward Brieona Warner had 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists for KSU.
As a team the Thorobrette's shot 47.5% (28-of-59) from the floor including 62.5% (5-of-8) from beyond the arc.
Stillman was led by Angel Mitchell who finished the contest with 25 points, five assists and six turnovers.
The Thorobrettes hit the road to take on Miles College this Saturday in Fairfield, Ala. After their game against Miles, Kentucky State will head to Memphis, Tenn. to take on the LeMoyne-Owen Lady Magicians.
