Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Kentucky State baseball team fell, 13-0, in game one of their season opening doubleheader, but rallied in game two, defeating #20 ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville, 3-1.

Game 1: KSU - 0 UAH - 13

In game one, Kentucky State (0-1) was overmatched by a UAH (7-1) team that had already played six games this season.

UAH controlled game one offensively going 15-of-30 from the plate as a team. Right fielder Cody Burton went 4-for-4 in the game and tallied a team high four runs. Pitchers Andrew Busby and Edwin Reyes combined for seven shutout innings.

KSU head coach Rob Henry on what went wrong in game one, “We gave up a few runs early and the game just got away from us. In the fifth inning we had a few bad reads the led to mental and physical mistakes that really piled up on us.”

The Thorobreds struggled from the plate, going 3-for-23 as a team. Sophomore starting pitcher Arefes Everette was given the loss for KSU after going 4.1 innings, giving up 12 hits and 11 earned runs.

Game 2: KSU - 3 UAH - 1

While Kentucky State (1-1) struggled in game one, they showed a lot of resiliency and came out swinging in game two.

“After game one we talked about turning the page right away. I liked our energy in game one until the game got away from us on the scoreboard. I just told our team to come out and play hard in the second game. We saw that message sink in during the first inning of game two.”

While the UAH (7-2) pitching was impressive in game one freshman pitcher Joe Dotson was even more impressive for the Thorobreds in game two. Dotson pitched a complete game, giving up just three hits and one earned run to one of the better teams in DII.

Coach Henry said, “Joe Dotson was the story of game two and the defense really held their own behind him.”

Dotson got all the offensive help that he needed in the first inning of game two. A Kyle Clark single got KSU on the scoreboard first when he drove in Ben Schroeder. Next SIAC Pre-season All-Conference player Alexander Davie hit a triple down the right field line that scored Clark. Kentucky State's third run also came in the first inning when Marshall Howard IV grounded out to third base but brought home Davie.

“The team showed some short term memory and showed that they can play with anyone in game two.”

KSU is back on the field tomorrow for the final two games of their four game series against the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Game one is scheduled to start at 12 p.m. at Charger Park.
