WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. – Kentucky State baseball rallied from an early eight-run deficit to win game one but dropped a narrow 5-4 decision in game two, settling for a doubleheader split at LeMoyne-Owen.
GAME 1: KENTUCKY STATE 20, LeMOYNE-OWEN 12
After an opening eight-run inning from LeMoyne-Owen, Kentucky State rallied, scoring 10 runs in the seventh inning to defeat the Magicians 20-12 in the opener.
Each Thorobred recorded a run during the game, with
Harry Major leading the charge with four runs.
Jonathan Padgett and
Preston Jones each tallied four RBIs. Padgett recorded his four RBIs in the seventh with an inside-the-park grand slam.
LeMoyne-Owen got off to a hot start in the opening frame, taking an 8-0 lead.
The Thorobreds used three stolen bases and singles from Major and
Logan Christophel to score four runs and cut the Magicians' lead to 8-4.
In the top of the sixth inning, Major singled into right field to drive in Cameron
McDonald. He later scored on a Magicians error that tied the game 9-9.
Kentucky State took control, scoring 10 runs in the seventh inning, including a three-run triple from Jones and an inside-the-park grand slam from Padgett that led to a 19-10 lead.
Endo scored the final run for the Thorobreds as Jones grounded out to second base, sealing a 20-12 win over the Magicians.
GAME 2: KENTUCKY STATE 4, LeMOYNE-OWEN 5
Three runs in the fifth inning helped the Magicians edge the Thorobreds 5-4 in the second game of the doubleheader.
Ryan Campbell put the Thorobreds on the board first, reaching on an error by the Magicians.
Trailing 2-1 entering the top of the fourth inning, Major singled into left field to score
Kendall Garland.
Zion Lewis followed by reaching base on a fielder's choice that brought in two runs, giving Kentucky State a 4-2 lead.
The Magicians scored three runs in the fifth inning to edge the Thorobreds 5-4.

The SIAC series will conclude with a single game beginning at 1 p.m. in West Memphis, Arkansas.
