Thorobrettes Use Second Half Push to Defeat Central State, 65-53

Box Score WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Kentucky State University Thorobrettes defeated the Central State Marauders, 65-53, in a non-conference women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon.

It was a tale of two halves for the Thorobrettes.

The Thorobrettes, who scored just 17 points in the first half, struggled mightily from the floor shooting just 21.4% (6-for-28) as a team in the opening half.

Luckily for KSU, Central State struggled as well. The Marauders shot just 26.9% (7-for-26) as a team on their way to 25 first half points.

Trailing by eight at the start of the second half, the Thorobrettes seemed to find their offensive rhythm.

Kentucky State proceeded to get rebounds and look inside finishing with layups. At the 13:40 mark KSU tied the score, 32-32, with a steal and an assist from Style Harper to set up an easy LaShell West layup.

From that point on Kentucky State was in control of the game. The Thorobrettes pushed their lead to as many as 13 points when guard Taylor Sanders connected on a pair of free throws to put KSU ahead 61-48 with just over a minute left.

The Thorobrettes outscored the Marauders 48-28 in the second half.

Forward Shayla Moore carried the offensive load for Kentucky State, finishing with a game high 15 points, shooting 7-for-19 from the floor. Moore also added six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Junior Brieona Warner was a force on the defensive end of the floor, finishing the game with 13 rebounds, 10 defensive, four blocks and a steal.

The Thorobrettes next game will be a major test when they take on fourth ranked Nova Southeastern at the Bellarmine Tournament in Louisville, Ky. on Saturday, Nov. 23rd.
