The Kentucky State University Thorobreds ended the fall semester's slate of games with a defeat at the hands of the No. 16 ranked Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers (5-0), 84-62, In Owensboro, KY. Ulyssess Thomas III and Quentin Henderson led the way for the Thorobreds with 15 and 16 points respectively.
Kentucky State (2-4), despite being shorthanded with just eight players, grabbed 15 offensive rebounds to KWC's 10 and trailed in the final total by just six, 41-36. KSU had four players score in double figures, led by Quentin Henderson's 16 points.
KWC led nearly the whole game, aside from a one-point KSU lead in the first two minutes.
The Panthers took a 10-point lead into halftime and opened the second half with a 9-1 run.
After taking a 43-31 lead on a Lucas Barker 3-pointer, KWC stayed up by double figures the remainder of the game.
The Thorobreds had a tough time shooting against the Panthers, shooting just 32.8% from the field and 16.7% from behind the arc. Troy Adams and Brandon Darrett stepped up big with 11 and 10 points respectively. Darrett in 30 mins of action grabbed 12 rebounds, added 2 steals and a block to record his first double-double of the season.
Senior Guard Patrick Dawson did not play due to an ankle sprain he injured in the Thorobreds 63-47 victory over Wilberforce.
The Breds will take a break and will be in action again on January 3, 2013 vs. Albany State University in their Conference Home Opener at 7:30pm in Exum.
