ATLANTA — Kentucky State football's Carlos Bazert Jr. was named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week following a disruptive performance in the Thorobreds' 24-16 road victory over Albany State.

Bazert finished the conference matchup with six tackles, including five solo stops, three tackles for loss totaling 18 yards and two sacks for a loss of 17 yards.
His biggest plays came on Albany State's final possession.

With Kentucky State holding an eight-point lead late in the fourth quarter, Bazert brought down Albany State quarterback Jeffery Davis for a 7-yard loss on the opening play of the drive. Two plays later, Bazert recorded his second sack, dropping Davis for a 10-yard loss and forcing the Golden Rams into a fourth-and-25 situation.

The late defensive stand helped Kentucky State preserve the 24-16 victory and remain unbeaten in conference play.

Bazert's performance contributed to a Kentucky State defensive effort that held Albany State to 246 yards of total offense and 81 rushing yards while recording five sacks and nine tackles for loss. The Thorobreds also limited the Golden Rams to 15 first downs.

Kentucky State improved to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in SIAC play with the victory.
