FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky State football moved up three spots to No. 2 in the Week 2 HBCU Division II Coaches Poll powered by BOXTOROW, the organization announced Tuesday.
The Thorobreds received 140 points and one first-place vote after improving to 2-1 on the season. Kentucky State was ranked No. 5 in the previous poll.
 
Kentucky State's rise followed a dominant 30-3 road victory over Clark Atlanta on Saturday. The Thorobreds' defense held the Panthers without a touchdown as the Thorobreds earned its second conference victory of the season.
 
Benedict remained atop the rankings with 169 points and 16 first-place votes. Johnson C. Smith followed Kentucky State at No. 3, while Virginia State and Virginia Union completed the top five.
 
Kentucky State is one of five Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference programs ranked in this week's top 10. Edward Waters is No. 6, Allen is No. 8, Tuskegee is No. 9 and Fort Valley State is No. 10.
 
Now in its fifth year, the HBCU Division II Coaches Poll is administered by BOXTOROW and voted on by head coaches representing HBCU NCAA Division II football programs.
