FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 4, 2026) – Kentucky State University Men's Basketball will have new leadership for the 2026-27 season, it was announced today by Director of Athletics Grant Stepp.
Dr. Jamaal Jackson's tenure as head coach of the men's basketball program has concluded after 10 seasons leading the Thorobreds. He will transition into a new role within the athletic department as Associate Athletic Director for Student Success.
"I would like to thank Dr. Jackson for his efforts to lead our basketball program over the last decade," said Stepp. "He is a great ambassador for the institution and a valued member of this community. We are excited that he will continue to make a positive impact on the Kentucky State community in his new role serving our student-athletes."
The national search for the program's next head coach will begin immediately.
"In a basketball-rich state like Kentucky, we believe this program has all the pieces in place to be a consistent competitor within HBCU, SIAC and NCAA Division II basketball," said Stepp. "We are excited about what lies ahead and confident that Kentucky State can build a respected program, as it has done in the past and across other areas of our athletics department."
Robert Sampson Consulting will work with the department to identify the next leader of the basketball program. Individuals wishing to be considered for the role can begin their involvement in the process by contacting Robert Sampson of Robert Sampson Consulting at Robert@NashvilleNIL.com.
