RICHMOND, Ky. – In a field that included five top-50 NCAA Division II schools, Kentucky State men's golf finished 17th at the Findlay Spring Invitational held at Boone's Trace National Golf Course in Richmond, Kentucky.
Host Findlay won the tournament outright with a 30-under-par 834 team total. The Thorobreds had the best finish among Kentucky's NCAA Division II schools, ahead of Kentucky Wesleyan, which posted a team total of 907, and Thomas More, which finished with a team score of 939.
On the opening day of the tournament, the Thorobreds posted a first-round team score of 296 and improved by one stroke in the second round, finishing with a 295. Battling a frost delay in the morning, Kentucky State completed the final round with a score of 310 to finish with a three-round total of 901.
Robert Johnson carded a four-over-par 76 in the first round and improved to a three-over-par 75 in the second. He shot his lowest round in the final, finishing with a one-over-par 73.
Both
Garrison Barton and
Jean-Marc Chevrotiere finished with a tournament total of 229. Chevrotiere's best round came in the first, when he shot an even-par 72. Barton finished strong with back-to-back scores of 76 in the final two rounds.
Ryan Courtney got off to a strong start with a one-under-par 71 in the first round, followed by a 74 in the second. He ran into trouble in the final round, finishing with an 86 and a total of 231.
Brady Hensley shot his best round of the tournament in the second, with a one-over-par 73, and finished with a total score of 233.
