Thorobreds hit their stride, cross finish line first in Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. – Kentucky State women's basketball secured a breakthrough win Saturday, topping conference opponent Spring Hill 64-55 in Mobile, Alabama.

Continuing to make her presence known, Amina Seck led all scorers with 17 points. Teammate Alycia Triplett made six shots from the field and four free throws to finish with 16.

The Thorobreds jumped out of the gate strong, opening the game with a seven-point run capped by a 3-pointer from Aaliyah Hayes at the 7:00 mark of the first quarter.

Amyah Adair-Mars followed with another 3-pointer, pushing Kentucky State to a 10-3 lead with 4:52 remaining in the period.

In the final minute of the quarter, Diara McBroom scored from the field to give the Thorobreds a 10-point cushion, but a late Spring Hill layup cut the lead to 20-12 heading into the second.

The tables turned in the second quarter as the Badgers found their stride, reeling off a 12-point run at the 5:46 mark. Spring Hill carried that momentum into the break with a 36-28 lead.

In the turn before the home stretch, the Badgers hit a 3-pointer to go up 42-31 with 6:11 left in the third quarter.

But the Thorobreds weren't out of the running. Kentucky State responded with a six-point run at the 3:40 mark, and a fast-break layup by McBroom tied the game at 43 with 2:27 remaining in the quarter.

A late Spring Hill push was short-lived as Seck hit two field goals in the final minute, giving Kentucky State a 49-46 edge heading into the final stretch.

Spring Hill opened the fourth with a 51-49 lead, but Seck quickly pulled even with a layup at 9:02. The game was tied again at 53 after Triplett converted off a turnover with 6:26 remaining.
