Box Score 2 GEORGETOWN, Ky. – Kentucky State Softball split their non-conference matchup at Georgetown, taking game one 4-3, while dropping game two 11-4 Tuesday
GAME ONE
Although Georgetown and Kentucky State tallied six hits each, the Thorobreds came out top 4-3 in game one.
With the base's loaded,
Makayla Coffey was walked, forcing
Lisuanet Flores across home for the first run.
Aaliyah Long followed with a single into left field that batted in
Jorden Bowman, giving the Thorobreds a 2-0 lead through three innings.
At the top of the fourth inning, Flores scored as
Regan Dudley grounded out to the second baseman, adding one run to the KSU lead. Georgetown would respond at the bottom of the inning with a double and a single that brought in two runs to close on the 3-2 Kentucky State advantage.
Taylor Floyd's fifth double of the season came with a ball deep into right-center that brought in
Andralyn Brown to give the Thorobreds some breathing room heading into the bottom of the seventh. An error by Floyd at the bottom of the inning allowed one Tiger run, but the Thorobreds would still come on top with a 4-3 win over the Thorobreds.
Flores (3-3) earned the win, pitching a complete game while striking out one batter.
GAME TWO
Georgetown scored 11 runs on 14 hits at the plate to take game two of the doubleheader 11-4.
In the first inning of game two, the Thorobreds capitalized on a wild pitch from the Tigers that advanced
Savannah Teale to second as Coffey scored the first for Kentucky State. At the bottom of the innings, the Tigers scored twice on a fielder's choice, and an error put them ahead 2-1 after the first inning.
A sacrifice bunt from Bowman brought in Brown tied the game at 2-2 in the third inning.
In the fourth inning, Georgetown added three to take a 5-2 lead.
Kentucky State capitalized on a wild pitch that put Bowman and Brown in scoring position while sending
Katie Garrett home.
Savannah Teale hit a sacrifice fly into center field that brought home Brown and brought the Thorobreds to trail by one run (5-4) heading into the bottom of the fifth.
Georgetown found two runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth to defeat Kentucky State 11-4.
ON DECK
The Thorobreds will have a 10-day break before hosting Asbury April 25 for Senior Day.
