Morton Earns 100th Career Win as Thorobreds Split Doubleheader with Lane

FRANKFORT, Ky.   –   Kentucky State Softball splits their doubleheader with Lane following a 3-1 game two win that earned Head Coach David Morton Jr. his 100th career win Saturday afternoon from State Stadium.

Following the game two win and achieving this career milestone Morton said, "It's a testament to the young ladies that we have had come through the program along with the individuals that have impacted myself and my student-athletes since I started here in 2018. It's a proud moment"

GAME ONE:  KENTUCKY STATE 2, LANE 5
At the top of the first inning Lane got ahead quickly scoring three runs. Tayler Floyd responded with her fourth homerun of the season to help close on Lane's 3-1 first inning lead.

Floyd continued to put her team in scoring position with a sacrifice ground out to second base that sent Jorden Bowman home to score bringing the Thorobreds to within two of the 4-2 Lane lead.

Lane added one run in the seventh inning and although Kentucky State put runners in scoring position at the bottom of the inning the Dragons would go on to take game one 5-2.

GAME TWO: KENTUCKY STATE 3, LANE 1
The Thorobreds strong offensive start began in the first inning as a bunt from Floyd batted in both Makayla Coffey and Andralyn Brown. Aaliyah Long hit a sacrifice fly into center field that brought home Floyd and secured an early 3-0 Kentucky State lead.

In the fifth inning Lane scored one run and in the seventh inning the Dragons put themselves in scoring position but was short lived as Coffey made an unassisted out at second base to secure a 3-1 win for the Thorobreds.

Theresa Pelland earned the win striking out four batters while allowing just one hit and one run.
