WILBERFORCE, Ohio – In the final moments of the second half Central State went on a 14-3 run to give Kentucky State men's basketball a 76-70 loss Saturday evening in Wilberforce, Ohio.
Aziel Blackwell continued his strong shooting at the free-throw line going 6-of-10 and made seven shots from the field to lead the contest with 21 points.
Adding another double-double on the season
Gregory Melvin tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds.
After an opening jumper by
Aziel Blackwell, following a Central State hook shot Miller hit a three-pointer at the 17:47 mark of the first that put the Thorobreds ahead 5-2.
The Marauders fought their way back and begin the battle between the two teams with multiple ties and lead changes before Central State found an 8-0 run that put them ahead 25-18 at 4:46 of the first half.
A late 15-2 run that was capped by a layup by
Keon Henderson gave the Thorobreds a 33-29 lead headed into halftime.
Three consecutive three-pointers from Central State brought the game to not only stand still but a brief Marauder 48-46 lead before a made free-throw from
Morgan Brewer tied the game and a layup by Blackwell tied the game 50-50 with 9:14 remaining in the second half.
Kentucky State managed to keep their edge within single digits throughout the remainder of the second half, but a pair of free-throws that capped a 14-3 run from the Marauders in the final minute secured a 76-70 Central State victory.
