Men’s Basketball Overcomes 19-Point Deficit to Defeat Spring Hill

FRANKFORT, Ky.  –  Kentucky State men's basketball overcomes a 19-point deficit to overthrow the Spring Hill College Badgers and take a senior night win of 105-95.

Lavar Miller Jr. led the way, shooting 100% from the charity stripe and made six shots from beyond the arc to score 30 points.

A pair of Thorobreds recorded double-doubles as Gregory Melvin scored 28 points while grabbing 10 rebounds, and Ogien Ayo tallied 12 rebounds and 10 points.

Aziel Blackwell continued his strong shooting at the free-throw line, going 6-of-7 on the night, combined with six shots from the field to score 19 points.

After an opening three from Miller, the Badgers created some distance and took their largest lead of 19 points (33-17) at 12:05 of the first half.

Melvin went 3-of-4 at the free-throw line in the final minute to close on the 52-46 Spring Hill lead.

A dunk by Melvin put the Thorobreds behind by just one, but with a pair of made free-throws, Blackwell tied the game and gave Kentucky State a 57-56 lead with 14:50 remaining in regulation.

A three-pointer from Miller at 11:47 of the second half initiated the control for Kentucky State.

Ayo scored on a second-chance layup to put the Thorobreds ahead by a 12-point 89-77 lead with 3:53 remaining.

Miller found a fast-break three-pointer to keep the Badgers at bay as the Thorobreds took a 94-84 lead.

The Badgers were topped as Miller made both free-throw attempts to secure a 105-95 Thorobred win.
