Bench Sparks Second-Half Surge, but Kentucky State Falls to Lee

FRANKFORT, Ky.  –  A strong second half by the Kentucky State women's basketball team wasn't enough to erase a double-digit halftime deficit, as Lee University pulled away for a 78–63 win over the Thorobreds on Tuesday night.

Three Thorobreds scored in double figures, led by Amina Seck, who finished with 18 points. Saniah Sandlin added 11 points off the bench, and Aaliyah Hayes chipped in 10.

Lee's Anna Muhonen led all scorers with 21 points, and the Lady Flames were nearly perfect at the free-throw line, going 24-for-26 — including a flawless 12-for-12 performance by Libby Privett.

The Lady Flames set the tone early, holding Kentucky State to just eight points in the first quarter. Lee went 6-for-7 from the free-throw line and knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to take an 18–8 lead after one.

Kentucky State trimmed the deficit to 27–21 on a layup by Shiyah Forte with 3:04 left in the second quarter, but Lee responded with an 11–2 run, capped by two made free throws, to take a 38–23 lead into the locker room.

Seck led all scorers in the third quarter with 12 points, going a perfect 4-for-4 at the line. Fueled by 20 bench points in the period, the Thorobreds battled back and closed the gap to 69–49 by the end of the third.

Kentucky State edged Lee 14–13 in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Flames maintained control to close out the 78–63 win.
