JACKSON, Tenn. – Kentucky State women's volleyball took the final two sets to defeat Lane 3-1 (25–20, 21–25, 25–21, 25–19) Saturday afternoon inside J.F. Lane Gymnasium.
The Thorobreds finished with 45 kills and hit .188 as a team, highlighted by a balanced offensive effort.
Ananiah Huguely led the way with 13 kills and a .303 hitting percentage, while
Sydnee Breda-Nixon followed with seven kills across two sets.
Cydne Clayton added eight kills and two blocks, and
Laila Wheaton chipped in four kills, two service aces, and a pair of blocks for eight total points.
Setter
Jada Knight orchestrated the attack with 16 assists and 17 digs to record a double-double, while
Sienna Stewart tallied 15 assists of her own.
Amber Gregory provided 10 digs and served one ace, and
Erin Grieb was effective at the service line with three aces.
Kentucky State established control early, taking the opening set 25–20 behind five kills from Huguely. After Lane evened the match in the second, the Thorobreds regrouped to win the next two frames. A late fourth-set surge — punctuated by back-to-back service aces from Wheaton and a closing kill by Breda-Nixon — sealed the match.
Defensively, the Thorobreds totaled 56 digs and five team blocks, holding the Dragons to a .225 hitting percentage. Lane's Jadyn Powell led all players with 21 kills in the loss.
