FRANKFORT, Ky. – An 84-65 win over Lane clutches the fifth conference win for Kentucky State men's basketball.
Seven shots from the field combined with six makes from the three-point line led Lavar Miller Jr. To lead Kentucky State with 21 points. He also earned three rebounds and two assists.
In a phenomenal performance of 19 points and 13 rebounds Joseph Owens added a double-double on the season. Owens led the Thorobreds with five steals, two assists and one block.
With shots by Tyson Brooks and Aziel Blackwell in the first half of the game the Thorobreds were able to tie Lane 7-7 at the 14:36 mark in the first half.
A dunk by Morgan Brewer led to a 10-2 run and a 19-9 lead as 8:51 remained in the first half. The Thorobreds outscored the Dragons 37-29 to end the first half with a lead.
Throughout the second half both teams battled it out but five points from Aziel Blackwell led to a 7-0 with 12:07 remaining. Hill made both of free throws to secure the victory for Kentucky State.
Home play will continue for Kentucky State on Monday, Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. the LeMoyne-Owen Magicians.
