FRANKFORT, Ky. – Five Thorobreds score in double digits led to an exciting 105-99 win over the LeMoyne-Owen Magicians Monday evening.
Joseph Owens shot over 60% from the field and went 5-of-6 at the charity stripe to lead Kentucky State with 19 points, he also tallied nine rebounds.
Ogien Ayo added another double-double on the season scoring 14 points and grabbing ten rebounds.
Brandon Hill led his team with six assists and three steals, at the three-point he shot 75% and tallied 18 points.
Aziel Blackwell made six shots from the field and four from the charity stripe to earn 17 points during the contest. Along with scoring in the double figures he grabbed four rebounds, earned three assists and one steal.
Owens made five straight shots from the field and shot 4-of-4 at the charity stripe to lead Kentucky State with 14 points at the half. Ayo scored ten points assisting with a 54-38 lead at the end of the first.
Hill extended the Thorobreds' advantage to its peak for the evening with a layup at the 10:12 mark of the second half, expanding Kentucky State's lead to 18 points and establishing a commanding score of 83-65.
The Magicians found a three-pointer to come within one of the 97-96 KSU lead at 2:26 of the second half.
Five points from Blackwell led to a 6-0 run and brought the Thorobreds to a 103-96 lead with 1:05 remaining in the second half. Blackwell scored the final points on a free throw to secure a 105-99 victory.
Kentucky State will meet Miles for the second time this season on Saturday, Feb. 10 in Birmingham, Alabama.
