JACKSON, Tenn. – The Kentucky State women's basketball team travels south to Jackson, Tennessee, to face regional rival Union University on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the Fred DeLay Gymnasium.
The Thorobreds (4-5, 3-1 SIAC) are coming off a 65-54 conference victory over Albany State on Dec. 7. Senior
Khalia Bryant delivered her fourth double-double of the season in that game, tallying 11 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman
Aaliyah Hayes showcased her shooting prowess, hitting 57% (4-of-7) from beyond the arc to lead the team with 14 points against the Golden Rams.
Kentucky State's offense is paced by senior
Naja Fenelon, who is averaging 9.3 points per game. She is closely followed by
Shannon Niles (8.9 ppg) and Bryant (8.7 ppg). Bryant also leads the team in rebounding, averaging 8.4 boards per game, a performance that ranks her 10th nationally with four double-doubles this season.
Union (6-2, 2-0 GSC) enters the matchup undefeated at home (4-0) and riding a two-game winning streak. In their most recent outing on Dec. 7, the Bulldogs defeated Mississippi College 77-66. Emily Jones led Union with 13 points, including a perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line, while Jazalyn Anousinh added 11 points as the team's only other double-digit scorer.
