Miller and Blackwell Have Career Night in Double-Overtime Win Against Fort Valley State

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Lavar Miller Jr. scored a career-high 33 points, including eight three-pointers, while Aziel Blackwell added a career-best 20 points to propel Kentucky State to a thrilling 92-90 double-overtime victory over Fort Valley State on Saturday afternoon at the Exum Center.
 
Miller connected on 10 field goals, including eight three-pointers, and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line to lead all scorers with 33 points. He also paced the Thorobreds with two steals and added six rebounds.
 
Blackwell's career performance included a team-leading nine free throws and five field goals, contributing to his 20 points on the night.
 
Gregory Melvin notched his first double-double of the season, leading the Thorobreds with 11 rebounds while adding 15 points.
 
Ogien Ayo contributed 14 points, five rebounds, and one assist on the night.
 
Kentucky State dominated the first half, holding the lead for more than 19 minutes and building their largest advantage of 12 points with 4:36 remaining. Miller led all scorers with 15 points, helping the Thorobreds secure a 39-29 lead at halftime.
 
In the second half, the Wildcats' bench outscored the Thorobreds 23-4 and dominated the paint with 18 points, helping them force the game into the first overtime.
 
The first overtime was a defensive struggle, with both teams managing just six points apiece, pushing the game into a second overtime.
 
Kentucky State triumphed in the second overtime, outscoring Fort Valley State 11-9 to secure a 92-90 victory over the Wildcats.
 
 
UP NEXT
Kentucky State will stay at home to host Simmons on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m. for School Day, with students from Second Street Middle School set to cheer on the Thorobreds.
