FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky State men's basketball shot 100% (11-of-11) from the charity stripe and 30 points from
Lavar Miller Jr. send the Thorobreds to an 85-79 victory over the Maroon Tigers.
Miller Jr. found is way from long range with eight three-point baskets to lead the contest with 30 points. He also led the Thorobreds with five assists.
Brandon Hill went 100% (6-of-6) from the free-throw line and made seven shots from the field to score 23 points. Hill led the Kentucky State with four steals while tallying four assists and three rebounds.
Ogien Ayo scored in the double digits with 11 points making both free-throw attempts for the night.
After some back-and-forth in the game, Hill scored two consecutive three-pointers, giving the Thorobreds an early lead of 18-15 at the 12:32 mark in the first half. Later, they increased their lead to 10 points, finishing the first half with a score of 33-26.
In the second half, the game tightened as a Maroon Tiger layup narrowed the gap to 45-42, with Kentucky State maintaining a slight lead. With just 1:20 left in regulation, Morehouse closed in further, trailing by only four points at 73-77. However, precise free-throw shooting from Miller Jr. and Hill proved crucial in fending off the Maroon Tigers, ultimately securing a 85-79 victory for Kentucky State.
