FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky State football outscores Tuskegee in the second half, but the Golden Tigers defeat the Thorobreds 36-10 Saturday afternoon.
Kentucky State led the Tuskegee with 109 passing yards as
Christian Perez threw for 100 yards and one touchdown, with
Denim Johnson adding the final nine yards in the fourth quarter.
Keke McFadden earned his first touchdown with Kentucky State on a four-yard pass by Perez in the third quarter (11:28).
Roman Hernandez led the Thorobreds with three solo and five assisted tackles for a total of 5.5 tackles.
As a team, Kentucky State had six tackles for a loss of 32 yards, led by one 10-yard tackle for a loss by
Jimmy Edmonds. His teammate
Jeremiah Owens had 1.5 tackles for a loss of 9 yards. They both recorded one sack each for a total of 17 yards.
How It Happened
A big stop by
Jaylen Johnson held the Golden Tigers to just a field goal in their opening drive.
Mason Molique tied the game at 3-3 on a 22-yard field goal in the first quarter (3:57). Tuskegee scored in the final seconds to take a 10-3 lead at the end of the quarter.
Tuskegee scored twice on the offensive end and converted an interception to take a 30-3 lead at halftime.
Out the gate, Perez connected with McFadden on a four-yard touchdown pass at 11:28 in the third quarter. Tuskegee added three on a field goal late in the third.
Midway through the fourth quarter, Tuskegee made a field go to score the final points of the day.

The Thorobreds had to fight from behind early after a high scoring first half by Tuskegee "We have to be able to sustain drives and on defense get off of the field when we need to be. We know they are going make plays but we have to respond a little bit better when adversity strikes" Head Coach Huggins said.

Kentucky State will hit the road for the first time this season as they head to Columbia, South Carolina for a conference matchup against Allen on Saturday, Sept. 16.
