Kentucky State Falls in Fourth Quarter at Allen

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C.  – Allen scores 27 points in fourth to defeat Kentucky State 34-30 Saturday night in Blythewood, South Carolina.
 
Defensive player Dontavius Broadnax shined during tonight's contest leading both teams with two touchdowns that included one on interception and one on a 30 yard punt return. He also led the contest with seven solo tackles that included one sack for a loss of 16 yards for a total of four tackles for a loss of 22 yards.
 
As a team Kentucky State tallied two interceptions split between Malik Occuir and Broadnax. Treyvon Pope had a strong performance of seven tackles that included five solo and two assisted.

On special teams Jude Santana led the way with two returns for 65 yards with a long of 55 yards that led to a touchdown.
 
Denim Johnson led the Thorobreds with 57 rushing yards with a long of 55 that led to one touchdown.
 
How It Happened
The Yellow Jackets scored the first points of the contest on a completed pass in the redzone to take an early 7-0 lead. Thorobred Jude Santana responded with a touchdown on a 55-yard punt return, a good kick by Mason Molique secured a tied ball game at the end of the first quarter.
 
A blocked punt by Trevon Pope recovered and returned for 30 yards by Broadnax and good extra point by Molique gave the Thorobreds a 14-7 lead at 11:19 in the second quarter. Broadnax would add six on an interception that secured a 21-7 Kentucky State lead at the half.
 
Broadnax continued to make his presence known with a safety near the midway point (8:32) of the third quarter. Denim Johnson scored on a 54-yard run with a made extra point by Molique led to a 30-7 Kentucky State at the end of the third quarter.
 
Allen went on to score four touchdowns in the fourth quarter to rally and defeat Kentucky State 34-30.
 
Up Next
The Thorobreds will return home to host the Fort Valley State Wildcats on Saturday, September 23 at 1 p.m. inside Alumni Stadium.
