FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky State softball head coach David Morton announced his team's 2023 schedule with a 52-game slate beginning on Friday, Feb. 10, at the 2023 Charger Chillout in Albertville, Alabama.
Head Coach Morton said, "We are excited about the upcoming season. We had a good fall season and feel like, with the mix of returners and new players, we are primed for success. The games in the first couple of weeks will be against very good teams and a great challenge for us, that I feel we are up to taking."
In their opening weekend, the Thorobreds will play a total of six opponents from Feb. 10-12, beginning with Alabama of Huntsville, followed by Shorter University, Mississippi College, Maryville University, Young Harris College, and closing out to Christian Brothers.
The following weekend Kentucky State will play in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Crossover from Feb. 17-19. The Thorobreds will meet five CIAA opponents, Shaw University, Virginia State University, Bluefield State University, Fayetteville State, and Claflin University.
Kentucky State will continue on the road at the Jackson State University HBCU Invitational on Feb. 25 and 26. They will meet a pair of NCAA Division I schools, Jackson State and Grambling State.
The Thorobreds will head to Salem, West Virginia, to play Salem University in a doubleheader on Mar. 7.
SIAC play will begin at the SIAC Crossover from Mar. 9-11 in Jasper, Alabama. Kentucky State will meet Savannah State, Allen, Edward Waters, Benedict, Albany State, Fort Valley State, and Clark Atlanta.
Following the SIAC Crossover, the Thorobreds will open their 2023 home schedule to Asbury in Lexington for a doubleheader on Mar. 14 and host SIAC opponent LeMoyne-Owen on Mar. 18-19 inside State Stadium in downtown Frankfort.
They will then travel to Lincoln Memorial for a doubleheader on Mar. 22. Following the road trip; the Thorobreds will host SIAC opponent Lane on Mar. 25 and 26.
Their next six opponents will be road contests as the Thorobreds will travel to Miles on Apr. 1-2 with a doubleheader at Kentucky Wesleyan to follow on Apr. 5. Road play will close with a doubleheader at Asbury on Apr. 12. The Thorobreds will then travel to Spring Hill on Apr.15-16 following with a doubleheader at Walsh on Apr. 18 and ending their regular season road schedule at Charleston on Apr. 20.
Kentucky State will host Tuskegee on Apr. 22 and 23. The 2023 regular season will end as the Thorobreds host Salem on Apr. 25 for Senior Day.
The SIAC Championship will be played May 4-6, as the location is soon to be announced.
