FRANKFORT, KY. – Kentucky State men's basketball celebrated six seniors,
Montrell Jacobs,
Shamon Mosley,
Elijiah Lockhart,
Jalon Andrews,
Jay Murrell, and
Kong Kong, during their 100-80 victory against rival Central State Saturday afternoon inside the Exum Center.
Jacobs went 7-of-7 from the charity stripe to lead the Thorobreds with 18 points. Alongside Jacobs, five Thorobreds scored in the double digits, Andrews (15), Kong (12), Hill (12), and Murrell (11).
Murrell and
Tyson Brooks led Kentucky State with nine rebounds their teammate Andrews finished with eight rebounds.
How It Happened
An opening bucket by Kong, followed by two made free-throws from Jacobs, and a layup by Murrell initiated a 6-0 Kentucky State first-half lead.
Central State made a three-pointer to hold a brief lead before Andrews responded with a layup to take back an 8-7 Kentucky State lead.
Brandon Hill found
Shamon Mosley at the three-point line extending the Kentucky State lead by 15 points (36-21) at 6:24 in the first half.
A dunk by
Tyson Brooks late in the final moments of the first half gave the Thorobreds a 45-34 going into halftime.
At 13:36 in the second half, Murrell made a three-pointer to give his team a 20-point 67-47 lead.
The Marauders came to within nine (76-70) of the Thorobreds with 8:20 left in the second half.
Kentucky state would run away with the game as a three-pointer by Khalif Crawley Jr. led to a 21-point 98-77 lead with 36 seconds remaining in the second half.
Hill went 2-of-2 from the free-throw line to help secure a 100-80 Kentucky State victory.
