FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky State men's basketball fights hard in a tight 74-71 loss to the LeMoyne-Owen Magicians Monday night inside the William Exum Center.
Montrell Jacobs went 4-of-9 from the three-point line and made ten shots from the field to lead both teams with 28 points.
This season,
Jalon Andrews added another double-double by grabbing 15 rebounds and scoring 12 points.
How It Happened
A massive dunk by
Tyson Brooks led to the contest's first points. The Magicians went on a short run before
Montrell Jacobs hit a three-pointer to bring the Thorobreds to within one of the 13-12 Magician lead with 9:36 remaining in the first half.
LeMoyne-Owen went on a 7-0 run later in the first half, giving them a 20-14 lead at 8:02 in the first half.
A three-pointer from downtown Frankfort and a layup by
Jay Murrell tied the game at 32-32 as 3:09 remained in the first half.
Jalon Andrews made free throws to tie the game 38-38 early in the second half. The Thorobreds jumped ahead for a brief as the Magicians responded at tied the tame 40-40. Andrews hit a jumper to give Kentucky State a 42-40 lead with 17:40 left in the second half.
The Magicians tied the game 44-44, followed by a short 46-44 LeMoyne-Owen lead as Brooks would make a layup to tie the game 46-46 with 14:30 remaining in the second half.
Brooks brought the Kentucky State to within one of the 51-50 LeMoyne Owen lead on a layup at 11:23 in the second half.
Back-to-back three-pointers by Jacobs tied the game 62-62 with 5:16 remaining in the second half.
Kentucky State tied the game 64-64 on a layup by Jacobs at 4:35 in the second half.
The Magicians would jump ahead briefly before the Thorobreds tied the game 66-66 on two made free throws by Andrews in the final minutes of the second half.
LeMoyne-Owen made both of their attempts at the free throw to defeat Kentucky State 74-71.
