FAIRFIELD, Ala. – Kentucky State men's basketball fights from beginning to end but came up short Monday night at Miles College, 73-69.
Montrell Jacobs led Kentucky State with 17 points. He also earned five rebounds, three assists, and one steal. His teammate
Shamon Mosley went 6-of-8 from the field to tally 14 points, and he went on to secure six rebounds and three assists.
Kong Kong led his team with seven rebounds and two steals while scoring ten points.
How It Happened
A jumper by
Jalon Andrews tied the game 2-2 early in the first quarter (18:14).
Jay Murrell hit a long-range three-pointer that tied the game 5-5 with 15:59 remaining in the first half.
The Golden Bears held the lead until
Shamon Mosley hit a three-pointer to tie the game 17-17 at 9:45 in the first half.
Andrews hit a three to give the Thorobreds a brief 20-19 lead before the Golden Bears tied the game 20-20 with 8:36 remaining in the first half.
The game tied twice before a late run by the Golden Bears gave them a 33-32 lead at the end of the first half.
Miles went on a 12-2 run early in the second half to lead Kentucky state 50-39 at 12:46 in the second half.
Kentucky State went on a 13-2 run led by six from Jacobs and three from
Elijiah Lockhart, and a three-pointer by
Brandon Hill brought the Thorobreds to within one of the 63-62 Golden Bear lead at 3:57 in the second half.
Jacobs hit a three with forty seconds remaining in the second half to close on the 71-69 Golden Bear lead. A final layup by the Golden Bears gave them a 73-69 victory.
