FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kong Kong leads contest with 19 points as the Thorobreds fall 65-59 to SIAC opponent Savannah State, Saturday afternoon in Frankfort.
In the first half, both teams shot at or above 50% from the field, Savannah State made 54.2% shots from the field, and Kentucky State shot an even 50% from the field. The Tigers did well from long range completing four of their seven free throw attempts. This offensive performance led to a 36-32 lead at the half.
In the second half, free throws made a difference as Savannah State made 66.7% (10-of-15) shots from the charity stripe as the Thorobreds made seven of their 17 attempts. Both teams made nine shots from the field. Kentucky State outrebounded Savannah State 20 to 19 and scored 13 points from fast breaks.
Kong led both teams with 19 points shooting 6-of-9 from the field and 75% (3-of-4) from the point line. During the contest, he tallied five rebounds and two blocks. Jalon Andrews led the Thorobreds with nine rebounds. He also scored in the double figures with 11 points. Jay Murrell was the final member of Kentucky State to score in the double digits with 13 points. He also had five rebounds and led Kentucky State with three assists.
How It Happened

Savannah State went on multiple runs late, led by Ayjay Plain going 3-of-3 from the field to give his team a 31-24 at 4:40 in the first half.
A last second layup second lay-up by Shamon Mosley brought Kentucky State to within four (36-32) going into the half.
Kong hit a long range three to close on the 40-38 lead early in the second half (17:15).
Javante Landy hit a three pointer to extend the Tigers lead 52-40 and go on an 11-0 run. Kong ended the run with a three-pointer to bring Kentucky State closer to the 52-43 Savannah State 2nd half lead (12:38).
Kentucky State went on a late 5-0 run led by three points from Jalon Andrews and two from Mosley. The Tigers went on to defeat the Thorobreds 65-59.
