Preview: Men’s Basketball at Morehead State

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Kentucky State men's basketball will play their final exhibition to in-state NCAA Division I opponent Morehead State on Tuesday, November 22, at 7 p.m. in Morehead, Kentucky. 
 
Scouting Morehead St.
Morehead State has an overall record of 2-3 and is 2-0 at home this season. In their home opener, they defeated Campbellsville Harrodsburg 99-58, followed by a 62-55 win against Bellarmine. 
 
Three Eagles are averaging in double figures, and Alex Gross leads his team, averaging 11.8 points per game. Drew Thelwell averages 10.8 points per game, and Mark Freeman averages 10 points per game. 
 
Gross leads his team on the defensive end, averaging six rebounds per game, and Thelwell averages 5.2 rebounds per game. He also leads his team with five blocks. 
 
From the Stable 
Kentucky State opened regular season play at home as they defeated Oakwood 102-65 to begin the season 1-0. Jalon Andrews led Kentucky State with a double-double of 23 points and ten rebounds. Three more of his teammates hit double digits Kong Kong (16), Jay Murrell (14), and Montrell Jacobs (12). 
 
 
2022-23 SIAC Men's Basketball Preseason Awards 
Montrell Jacobs earned second-team honors with a successful 2021-22 season. He averaged 16.9 points per game during that season, leading to 389 points. He shot 80.3 % from the charity stripe and averaged 2.6 rebounds per game, 1.2 assists, and 1.7 steals.
