Twenty-nine Kentucky State University student-athletes earned a 4.0 grade point average for the 2020 spring semester as the athletics department posted a GPA of 3.10. Thirteen of the institutions 14 programs achieved at least a GPA of 2.96.
The 29 student-athletes are more than double the number from the fall semester that achieved the perfect grade point average. In the fall semester, 13 student athletes earned the 4.0 grade mark. More than 100 KSU student-athletes finished the spring semester with at least a 3.0 GPA.
Of the 29 student-athletes, six of them –
John Michael Etheridge (baseball),
Collier Higgs (baseball),
Tanner Morgan (men's golf),
Olivia Saylor (softball),
Miana Wallace (volleyball) and
Emma McQuade (volleyball) – have a cumulative GPA of 4.0.
Eight volleyball student-athletes –Wallace,
Jalynn Roberts, McQuade,
Aniah Hollowell,
Ariyonna Johnson,
Makayla Berry,
Sasha Bills and
Brianna Etienne – all registered 4.0 GPAs in the spring semester.
On the men's side, baseball leads the way with six student-athletes – Etheridge, Higgs,
Brady Bibbs,
Aram Kumar,
Dom Lawson and
Roby Schank - with a 4.0 GPA for the semester. Football has five student-athletes –
Artest Banks,
Dennis Bryant,
Tyler Cronley,
Colin Dwenger,
Israel McClain and
Dakota Waldridge – to earn the distinguished GPA.
The other student-athletes to record 4.0 GPAs over the spring semester were
Grant Goode (men's basketball),
Jalen Fisher (men's basketball),
Tanner Morgan (men's golf),
Allenia Ponder (women's basketball),
Jessie Kee (women's basketball),
Kolan Livingston (men's track and field),
Tanisha Valdez (softball), Saylor and
Sidney Campbell (softball).
Boosted by seven of the 10 members achieving at least a 3.5 GPA, the women's cross country team recorded the department's highest grade point average of 3.541. Softball was right on their heels with a team GPA of 3.529. The men's golf team recorded a 3.409 GPA for the highest male team GPA.
