Solid finish secures MBB win

A stellar last four minutes enabled the Kentucky State University men's basketball team to secure the 72-65 victory Saturday over LeMoyne-Owen in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action at the William Exum Center.
 
Kentucky State improves to 9-14 overall, 6-10 in the SIAC, while the Magicians fall to 12-11 overall, 7-9 in the SIAC. The Thorobreds will own the tie breaker if needed by virtue of their season sweep.
 
The Thorobreds host West Division-leading Miles 7:30 p.m. Monday in SIAC action.
 
TURNING POINT
Senior Orlando Fikes (Detroit, Mich.) drilled a three pointer with 3:13 remaining to give Kentucky State the lead and to spark a game-ending 13-4 run. Kentucky State was 5-for-5 from the floor in the aforementioned run.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
Senior Jordan Little (Jersey City, N.J.) scored the game's final six points and finished with a game-high 18 points. He pulled down nine rebounds with one assist and one steal.
 
Junior Bradlee Lewis (Chicago, Ill.) recorded his first career double-double with 15 points and a career-high 12 rebounds, nine on the defensive end. He added two steals and two assists.
 
Junior Kevin Wharton-Price (Pittsburgh, Pa.) showed his rim protecting skills with a career-best three blocks to go along with 11 points and seven rebounds.
 
COACH SPEAK
"We definitely needed that one going into the game on Monday," said Kentucky State University head coach Jamaal Jackson. "This time of year we need to be playing at a high level with these three games left going into the tournament."

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
  • All eight of the players that played double-figure minutes scored for the Thorobreds.
  • Bradlee Lewis was responsible for 14 of the team's 32 three pointers. It marks the third time this season Kentucky State hoisted at least 30 three-point attempts.
  • In a back-and-forth affair, the game featured 16 lead changes and 13 ties.
  • Senior Shaq Athie (Cincinnati, Ohio) was a stat stuffer with nine points, six rebounds, a team-high three assists and two steals.
  • Kentucky State is now 3-1 on the season when it has more assists than turnovers.
