FRANKFORT, Ky. -- The Kentucky State University men's basketball team looks to snap a four-game losing skid when it hosts LeMoyne-Owen College 3 p.m. Saturday in the William Exum Center.
Kentucky State (8-17, 5-10 SIAC) dropped its last game to Tuskegee University, 78-61, on Monday night, but two Thorobreds showcased strong offensive performances.
Graduate guard
Shaq Athie (Cincinnati, Ohio) and junior guard
Bradlee Lewis (Chicago, Ill.) scored a team-high 18 points each, shooting a combined 13-for-20 from the field.
Lewis' 18 points amounted for a new career-high and he also finished with a team-high three shots made from downtown.
Kentucky State has four players averaging over nine points a game. Senior
Jordan Little (Jersey City, N.J.) leads the team in scoring with 15.0 points per game – good for eleventh in the SIAC - while also pulling down 8.3 rebounds per game. Senior guard
Grant Goode (Matawan, N.J.) is second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.3 points per game.
Athie is third on the team in scoring with 10.5 points and leads the team with 8.5 rebounds per game.
Athie also leads the team with 55 assists and 32 steals. Junior guard
Kevin Wharton-Price (Pittsburgh, Pa.) is averaging 9.7 points per game and leads the team with 54 made three pointers. Â Â
LeMoyne-Owen (12-9, 7-7 SIAC) enters the contest coming off a 77-60 loss to Lane College on Monday, giving the Magicians a 5-6 road record this year. LOC is led by Tyrone Banks, who leads the team with 18 points per game and 54 assists. Devin Booker (14.4 ppg), Kenneth Perkins (13.6 ppg) and Jaquan Lawrence (10.3 ppg) also average double figures for The Magicians.
Kentucky State is 11-7 in the last 18 games against LOC after posting the 96-83 win in Memphis earlier this season. In the win, Goode led the way with 18 points. The 13 points was the largest margin of victory against the Magicians. The 'Breds have also amassed a 7-2 home record during the series.
