Extended run leads to loss

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A long scoring run that spanned the end of the first half and the beginning of the second enabled Miles College to pick up the 87-49 win over the Kentucky State University men's basketball team Saturday at the Knox-Windham Gym in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.

Kentucky State falls to 7-10 overall, 4-6 in the SIAC, while West Division-leading Miles improves to 13-3 overall, 8-2 in the SIAC.

TURNING POINT
Over a 20-minute stretch midway through the game, Miles went on a 40-4 run to open up a 40-point lead.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
The forward tandem of senior Jordan Little (Jersey City, N.J.) and sophomore Jah Bennett (Columbus, Ohio) combined for 21 points. Little finished with a team-high 11 points on 4-of-13 shooting, while Bennett had 10 points on 3-of-5 shooting from the floor and was 4-of-4 from the line.

Senior Shaq Athie (Cincinnati, Ohio), despite picking up two fouls early and sitting all but two minutes of the first half, pulled down a team-high five rebounds. Senior Grant Goode (Matawan, N.J.) added four boards.

COACH SPEAK
"As far as tonight, we didn't play any defense," said Kentucky State University head coach Jamaal Jackson. "We didn't implement our defensive game plan. We just sat back too calm and too casual, and they took it to us."



INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Thorobreds were outrebounded by 12 (37-25). Miles came into the game leading the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in rebounding margin at plus-5.5.

Kentucky State assisted on just six of its 18 made baskets, while the Golden Bears had 14 assists on 33 made baskets.

Miles owned a 22-point edge (40-18) in points in the paint and had a 16-6 edge on second-chance points.
