The Kentucky State University football team concludes the home portion of their 2019 schedule, hosting Edward Waters 1 p.m. Saturday at Alumni Stadium.
Kentucky State looks for its third straight win for the first time since 2016, and secure the first non-losing since with 2013.
The Thorobreds will honor the contributions of eight seniors in a pregame ceremony. The game also marks the program's Cancer Awareness and Military Appreciation Game.
GAME NOTES
SLOW START: Kentucky State has only scored six points in the first quarter this season. Their lone points came via a touchdown against Jackson State in the Circle City Classic.
SHAKY FINISH: The Thorobreds have allowed more points in the fourth quarter than they have in the first three quarters, combined. Kentucky State is yielding 58 points over the first three quarters and have surrendered 64 points in the fourth quarter.
HANG TIME: Thanks to the punting ability of freshman
Michael Bobak and the coverage teams, the Kentucky State punt coverage team is tied for the national lead in punt coverage defense allowed -0.25 yards per return.
TICK, TICK, TICK: Using the triple option offense, the Thorobreds have done a phenomenal job of maintaining possession. In fact, Kentucky State is currently third nationally, and first in the SIAC, in time of possession - holding the ball for 34:41. Division II leader Eastern New Mexico possesses the ball for 36:04.
Kentucky State has won the time of possession battle in six its six games this season.
BIG PLAY AERIELS: Senior receiver
Jonathan Powell is ninth nationally, and first in the SIAC, with 22.52 yards per reception.
PASS EFFICIENCY: Kentucky State leads the conference in passing efficiency with a rating of 156.60. The Thorobreds have thrown for eight touchdowns and just one interception.
RETURN SPECIALISTS: Redshirt junior
Brett Sylve was 15th nationally, and second in the SIAC, averaging 28.6 yards per return.
GROUND AND POUND: Redshirt junior
Brett Sylve has started to get going on the ground. After averaging 83 yards per game through the first three games, Sylve is averaging 138 in the last three.
The three games have boosted his season average to 108.7 yards per game, which is second best in the SIAC. He is also second in the conference with seven total touchdowns and six rushing touchdowns.
