The Kentucky State University men's basketball team kicks off the second trip through the West Division of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as the Thorobreds host Lane College 3 p.m. Saturday.
THE TEAMS: Kentucky State (7-12 overall, 5-6 SIAC) is currently fifth in the West Division of the SIAC, two games behind Lane College and LeMoyne-Owen College.
Lane (10-7 overall, 7-4 SIAC) recently handed Miles its first SIAC loss of the season, and is riding a two-game winning streak on the strength of its 75-53 win over Tuskegee.
THE COACHES:
Jamaal Jackson is in his third season at the helm of his alma mater. Kentucky State has been one of the top scoring teams in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference under Jackson. He came to KSU following a stint at Bluefield State College, where he led them to increased win totals in every season. The same can be said about his tenure at Stillman, where the Tigers improved upon their win totals.
Bryanth Basemore is in his sixth season as the Dragons' head coach.
THE LAST MEETING: Four players reached double figures, but the Kentucky State University men's basketball team fell to Lane College, 82-76, on December 1 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.
After senior
Ditalion Battle hit a three-pointer that tied the game with two minutes remaining, the Dragons scored nine of the final 12 points to secure the victory. All nine of Lane's points came from the free throw line.
Senior
Kevin Hayes led the 'Breds with 27 points, eight rebounds and six assists. He has been the leading scoring in all seven games. Battle added 12 points, four assists and three rebounds.
THE PLAYERS: Kentucky State boasts two of the top four scorers in the SIAC as senior

Ditalion Battle is fourth with 17.3 points. Hayes has scored double figures in every game this season, and reached the 20-point plateau nine times this season.
Battle has scored at least 20 points in nine of the last 12 games, and is averaging 21.4 points in those games. He leads the 'Breds with 54 assists and is third on the team with 4.7 boards. The Cincinnati native is also fifth in the SIAC in assist to turnover margin.
Terrance Holt and Kendarius Ash are the two double-figure scorers for the Dragons with 16.1 and 16.0 points, respectively. Ash is adding a team-high 11.7 rebounds, but hasn't played enough games to be in the SIAC league leaders.
Senior forward Lucious Brown tallied 23 points on 9-of-19 shooting in the first meeting, but has only reached double figures in two other games and is averaging 8.1 points. He is second on the team with 5.4 rebounds.
