During the lengthy drought the Thorobreds were outscored 16-3 as the Golden Bears took over the contest. It also came on the heels of a KSU scoring run that catapulted them back into the game.
Trailing by 13 points early in the second half, Kentucky State got hot. Junior
Grant Goode (Matawan, NJ) got the run going with a three pointer, and then a fastbreak dunk by senior
Ditalion Battle (Cincinnati, OH) had the momentum wearing green uniforms. A three-pointer by Battle capped the 11-0 spurt, Kentucky State's deficit was down to two, and Miles was calling a timeout.
Unfortunately, the timeout seemingly got the home team refocused and back-to-back inside baskets enabled Miles to breath. And then the aforementioned run ended any thoughts of an upset.
The first half featured three lead changes and four ties.
Miles scored seven of the first nine points to get the gym jumping. But prosperity was only temporary of the Golden Bears as senior
David Jelks (Conyers, GA) gave the 'Breds a brief lead. However, MC tallied nine of 13 points to take its biggest lead of the first half at six points.
Senior
Kevin Hayes (Detroit, MI) led the team with 12 points, while Battle added 10 points. Senior
Austin Sherrell (Detroit, MI) pulled down a team-high seven rebounds to go along with six points.
Kentucky State (6-11 overall, 4-6 SIAC) will have a week off before returning to the hardwood with a 5:30 p.m. Monday game against Spring Hill. It will kick off a stretch of four consecutive home games as KSU ends the season with home games in seven of the last nine games. Fans are encouraged to wear green to support the Thorobreds.
