GAME PREVIEW: Bellarmine University

The Kentucky State women's basketball team steps away from Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action 1 p.m. Saturday, hosting Bellarmine University.

THE TEAMS: Kentucky State (5-5) has won a pair of games after losing five straight. In Saturday's non-conference win over McKendree, the Thorobreds limited their opponent to seven third-quarter points in coming back from a halftime deficit.

Bellarmine (5-1) opened the season with five straight victories before losing to Southern Indiana 77-70 on December 1. The Knights, who was picked to finish fourth in the GLVC, are the third team from the conference on KSU non-conference slate.  

THE COACHES: Terrance Slater is in his third season as the head coach, and fifth season with the program. The Thorobreds are 25-38 in his tenure as a head coach. He led Kentucky State to the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference semifinals a season ago. He was an assistant the last time KSU advanced to the SIAC title game.

Chancellor Dugan is in her seventh season as the head coach at Bellarmine University. The Knights have qualified for the eight-team tournament in each of her six seasons.

THE PLAYERS: Senior Brooke Wallace is one of four players in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference averaging a double-double, leading the Thorobreds with 12.6 points and 10.2 rebounds. She is eighth in the SIAC in scoring and second in rebounds. Her 62 defensive rebounds lead the conference.

Junior Jessie Kee is second on the team in scoring with 10.5 points, and is scoring 11.5 points per game since moving into the starting lineup. Sophomore Erica Jones is second on the team with 6.7 rebounds to go along with 9.3 points. Junior Amani Williams are distributing a team-high 33 assists.

Bellarmine is led by a pair of post players as sophomore Lauren Deel leads the team with 12.8 points and senior Liza Tibbs comes off the bench for 11.2 points per game. Tibbs is pulling down a team-high 7.5 rebounds, while Deel is fourth on the team with 4.0 boards.

The Knights have 10 players averaging at least 11 minutes, and none of them are playing more than 24 minutes.
