The Kentucky State University men's basketball team plays their third of four straight road games to kick off Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action with a 4 p.m. EST Saturday meeting with Lane College.
THE TEAMS: Kentucky State is coming into after an 86-53 loss to Albany State Monday. The Thorobreds shot just 26.7 percent from the floor in the second half and 34.6 percent for the game. Kentucky State is 1-3 away from the William Exum Center.
Lane (4-2) has won four straight games, three in SIAC action, after a 77-76 victory over Central State University. The Dragons blew a nine-point halftime lead, and then needed a 12-1 run to turn around a five-point second-half deficit.
THE COACHES:
Jamaal Jackson is in his third season at the helm of his alma mater. The Thorobreds are 21-39 under Jackson. Kentucky State has been one of the top scoring teams in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference under Jackson. He came to KSU following a stint at Bluefield State College, where he led them to increased win totals in every season. The same can be said about his tenure at Stillman, where the Tigers improved upon their win totals.
Bryanth Basemore is in his sixth season as the Dragons' head coach.
THE PLAYERS: Senior forward
Kevin Hayes has led the team in scoring in all six games this season, and is the only double-figure scorer for the Thorobreds. He is averaging 19.5 points in a season-high 32.7 minutes. Senior guard
Ditalion Battle is averaging 9.8 points, while senior
Austin Sherrell drops 9.5 points for the 'Breds. He is leading the team with 7.0 rebounds and 16 assists.
No individual stats are available for Lane College.
