GAME PREVIEW: University of Missouri-St. Louis

For the third time in five days, the Kentucky State women's basketball team hits the hardwood. This will be first time in the three contests, the Thorobreds are playing away from the William Exum Center as they travel to St. Louis for a non-conference game with the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

THE TEAMS: Kentucky State (3-1) is coming off a one-point loss to the University of Alabama Huntsville in which they lost an 18-point lead and had its game-winning shot hit the rim and fall short. It marks the first of five straight road games for Kentucky State.

The Thorobreds are ranked 10th in the most recent D2SIDA South Regional rankings.

After dropping the first three games of the season, UMSL (2-3) has won two consecutive – both at home. In a game that featured 12 ties and 13 lead changes, UMSL scored with 24 seconds remaining to secure the 69-67 victory over Southwest Baptist. The Tritons were picked sixth in the 14-team Great Lakes Valley Conference preseason poll.

THE HISTORY: Kentucky State lost the lone meeting between the two schools, falling last season, 65-55.

THE COACHES: Terrance Slater is in his third season as the head coach, and fifth season with the program. The Thorobreds are 23-34 in his tenure as a head coach. He led Kentucky State to the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference semifinals a season ago. He was an assistant the last time KSU advanced to the SIAC title game.

Katie Vaughn is in her seventh season with the Tritons, and is the all-time wins leader at UMSL. The team has advanced to the GLVC conference tournament in each of her six seasons at the helm. Her 2017-18 team is coming off a 21-6 record, notching a 20-win season for just the third time in program history, while the 21 wins ties the program's second most. The Tritons also went 14-4 in GLVC play, a program-best, en route to claiming in the Central Division regular season.

THE PLAYERS: Three players are averaging double figures for Kentucky State, led by senior Tara Jefferson's 11.5 points per game. Jefferson has scored more than 10 points in every other game, and is coming off a seven-point effort against Huntsville.

Senior Brooke Wallace is averaging a double-double with 11.0 points and 11.3 rebounds. She has scored double figures in three of the team's four games. She pulled down a career-high 19 rebounds in the season opener. Junior Jessie Kee is coming off the bench for 10 points a game. Junior Amani Williams and sophomore Khaliah Herbert have dished out 12 and 11 assists, respectively.

Senior guard Arielle Jackson is the leading scorer for the Tritons, and one of three players averaging at least 10 points per game. Jackson is shooting 43 percent from the field en route to scoring 13.0 points per game. Sophomore Alex LaPorta is nearly averaging double-double with 12.0 points and 9.4 boards. She also leads the team with 13 steals and is second with 14 assists. Senior Kaitlynn Henning the third of the trio of double-digit scorers dropping in 11.0 points.
