The Kentucky State University volleyball team claimed a season-high fifth victory Tuesday, sweeping past Salem University, 25-12, 25-13, 25-23, in non-conference action at the Exum Center.
Kentucky State scored 15 of the last 17 points, including 11 straight with sophomore
Jalynn Roberts (Davenport, IA) serving to break open the first set. It was much of the same in the second set as a 12-2 spurt allowed the Thorobreds to seize a commanding 2-0 lead.
However, the visiting Tigers refused to go away quietly.
Salem scored eight of the first 11 points to take its biggest lead of the match. But Kentucky State was able to chip away, stay in striking distance before pouncing with a seven-point run to get on the verge of victory. The Tigers showed a similar fight in the end as they did in the beginning, but ultimately, Kentucky State held on for the win.
Senior
Arlandria Greathouse (Crowley, TX) finished with a team-high 10 kills on 19 attempts, while sophomore
Makayla Martin (Combine, TX) added eight kills on 22 attempts.
Sophomore
Gabriella Gracia (Trullia Alto, Puerto Rico) had her string of 30-plus assists ended at six straight, but still managed to dictate an efficient offense with 29 assists.
Sophomore
Robin Poole (Katy, TX) and freshman
Alliyah Williams (Sugar Land, TX) recorded 10 digs each for the Thorobreds.
Kentucky State (13-16) travels to Kansas City, MO for a tri-match with Rockhurst University and Quincy University.
