Frankfort, Ky.—Kentucky State University softball cruised by Bluefield State College on Senior Day with a doubleheader sweep Monday afternoon.
The Thorobrettes (14-18, 8-5) have now won 12 of their last 13 games with only two games remaining till the SIAC Championship tournament in Augusta, Georgia on May 4th.
Next up, KSU will host Salem International University on Saturday at 1 pm ET.
Game 1: KSU 17 BSC 0
KSU capitalized on multiple miscues throughout the contest. The Blues committed four errors and recorded six wild pitches producing several runs for the Thorobrettes as they caused havoc on the base paths.
The highlight of the afternoon came from the bat of senior left fielder
Keyana Dunn. With KSU leading 8-0 in the third inning, Dunn blasted a shot to left-center field for a grand slam, her third home run of the season.
Dunn went 3-for-4, with five RBIs, and three runs scored. Sophomore shortstop Jittuan Thompson continued to knock the cover off the ball as she went 3-for-4 four with four runs scored and three RBIs.
Senior pitcher
Emily Jenkins pitched her first complete game shutout of the season, striking out five, and only allowed two hits to the Blues' lineup.
Game 2: KSU 22 BSC 1
Thompson proved to be a force as she picked up her second game of 2017 with eight RBIs. She finished the game going 2-for-3, accounting for four runs scored.
Freshman
Chante Thome collected her third win of the season while allowing one earned run over three innings of work. Fellow freshman pitcher
Kaija Aikman came in for relief throwing a scoreless inning and two-thirds. Aikman entered the game in the bottom of third as a pinch hitter when she belted a solo home run to centerfield for her second long ball of the season.
As a part of senior day festivities, Jenkins pinched hit in the fourth inning and knocked her first career hit with a single to left field.
