Softball Splits Doubleheader on the Road at Lane College

Jackson, Tenn.—Kentucky State University softball split a doubleheader with Lane College on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Thorobrettes (8-18, 6-4) extended their win streak to six games with a 10-1 victory in the first game of the day but dropped the second contest after leading 1-0 into the sixth as the Lady Dragons scored twice in their final inning at the plate, for the 2-1 win.
   
KSU will aim to take the series in the rubber match on Sunday. First pitch is slated for noon ET.
 
Game 1: KSU 10 LC 1
 
For the second consecutive game freshman pitcher Chante Thome (2-4) dominated a conference opponent with a complete-game win. Thome struck out three over five innings of work, while only allowing one hit and one run.
 
Along with Thome's strong performance, the KSU offense produced behind her for the second straight time, piling on 10 runs, six earned against the Lady Dragon's pitching combo of Mice'La Ross and Ericka Webst.
 
Sophomore Jittaun Thompson collected her sixth straight game multi-hit game as she went 2-for-4 and tacked on her team-leading 19th and 20th RBIs.
 
Senior third baseman Kaitlyn Drake joined Thompson with two RBI's, going 1-for-3 at the plate.
 
KSU drew nine walks from LC, including four walks from leadoff junior left fielder Alysha Sakamura, resulting in three runs. As a team, five of the nine walks for KSU led to runs.
 
Game 2: LC 2 KSU 1
 
Freshman pitcher Courtney Payne threw five scoreless innings against the hosting Lady Dragons, striking out seven in the process. The Thorobrettes gave Payne a lead in the third inning off a sacrifice fly by Sakamura, scoring senior centerfielder Tyniesha Wilson for a 1-0 advantage, holding the lead till the bottom of the sixth.
 
Right fielder Jarvaneika Delouch struck with a two out, two-run homer to center field for a 2-0 lead. KSU threatened in the top of the seventh with the bases loaded but weren't able to capitalize on the threat, dropping the second game of the day, 2-1.
