Frankfort, Ky.-- Kentucky State University softball extended its win streak to five games with a doubleheader sweep of Bluefield State College on Thursday afternoon.

The Thorobrettes (7-17) will now look towards this weekend as they look to continue their winning ways against fellow SIAC member Lane College on Saturday and Sunday.

Game 1: KSU 13 BSC 1

The Thorobrettes jumped on the Big Blues with two runs in the first inning on a pair of defense miscues. In the top of the second KSU added four more runs with five runs, on five hits, including four consecutive hits in four consecutive at-bats.

Freshman pitcher
Courtney Payne (2-6) settled in as she threw her second straight complete game win. Throughout the afternoon Payne only allowed four hits, two walks, one earned run to the Big Blues' offense, while striking out a career-high eight.

Junior designated
Keyana Dunn swung a big bat for the visiting squad as she crushed a two-run home run in the top of the fourth. She added another RBI to her day, as she went 1-2 at the plate.

Senior centerfielder Tyneshia Wilson went a perfect 3-for-3, boosting her season average to .360. Wilson is second on the team in batting average to only freshman
Kaija Aikman as she is currently hitting .375 over 14 games, compared to Wilson's 23 games played.

Sophomore shortstop
Jittaun Thompson added two hits on two at-bats, while driving in two runs, she also walked twice and scored three runs.

Thirteen first inning runs sealed the deal for KSU as the offense played add-on with starting pitcher Casey Spencer giving up five hits and six walks. Freshman starting pitcher
Kaija Aikman delivered the final blow as she sent a three-run homer sailing over the center field wall for her first career home run, running Spencer from the game after only two-thirds of an inning.

Aikman (2-5) took the large lead to the circle in the bottom half of the inning and kept the Big Blues silent in the final game, pitching her second consecutive complete game win. She only allowed three hits and two walks over her body of work, striking out eight.

On top of her stellar pitching performance, Aikman led the offense as she went 3-for-3 and a team-leading five RBIs.

Dunn followed up her first game performance with two hits on three at-bats, three runs scored, and four RBIs. Finishing her day 3-for-5 with eight RBIs.

Thompson extended her hit streak to five games going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. She now leads the Thorobrettes in total RBIs with 18 on the season.
